Denise Baker – The Swiss Army Knife of Schmidt Motos
You know that person who can do a little bit of everything? Yeah, that’s Denise—well, at least when Bryce needs help. She’s not out there making it look effortless, but when the call comes in to wrench on bikes, machine parts, lace wheels, rebuild carburetors, clean, or prep parts, you’ll find her right in the thick of it. Officially, she’s learning the ropes of machining, but more importantly, Bryce isn’t just teaching her the machining side—he’s also mentoring her on the technical knowledge of motorcycles. She’s not just learning how to make the bike look pretty; she’s gaining a deeper understanding of how the components work and why. And let's be real, she’s also the one keeping Bryce’s ADHD in check, making sure things stay on track in the shop.
Denise is the go-to person for handling customer Repair Orders, and while she’s not throwing down with nonsense or cracking the whip, she’s always professional, clear, and informative. She’s great at offering customers solutions that can save them money in the long run by thinking ahead about their bike’s condition. For example, if they’re getting their front suspension rebuilt and their springs are 20 years old, she’ll suggest replacing them while everything is apart. That way, they save on labor costs in the future—and who doesn’t want that?
She’s also pretty serious about keeping things confidential. If you think she’ll spill the beans to a rider’s significant other—think again. Unless they come in together and it’s clear they’re cool with it, Denise keeps her lips sealed. Because, let's be real: a happy wife is a happy life, right?
Now, as for the whole “take messages and look cute” thing? Sure, Denise is easy on the eyes, but when a customer calls in and asks for a tech, she makes it clear that she’s the person they’ll be speaking with. Sure, they'd probably prefer talking to a guy, but that’s not happening—she’s here to take that load off Bryce so he can stay focused on the bike he's working on or the part he’s machining.
As for tools? Well, let’s just say Denise may occasionally “misplace” them. If Bryce sets a tool down and walks away, poof, it’s gone. She puts it away before he even realizes it. This drives him absolutely bananas, but Denise is also sporting her very own purple toolbox now (which Bryce is, quite literally, paying her back for). So, maybe she’s just a little too good at tidying up... or maybe she’s just secretly having a laugh.
Either way, whether she’s wrenching, managing the shop, or keeping Bryce’s tools in their “special” places, Denise is proving she’s got more to her than just being a pretty face. She’s the one keeping everything running smoothly, saving customers money, and making sure Bryce’s tools mysteriously disappear—all while keeping it professional, of course.
